Stock Sellection

I'm interested in hearing about how other's choose their stocks to trade. Tell me how you get the information and make the selection decision. Do you use a stock screener? Do you take suggestions from the news or websites? Before even bothering to take the time to analyze a stock, a trader should know whether or not the stock has a good background? Among the thousands of stocks available, how do you make the selection decision?

I've been using stock screeners and programmed my own screener, but I'm not satisfied with them and I'd like to hear about what other's do.
