ideal timeframes to trade near pivot points in a up/down trend

I am a newbie an i wish to know what could be an ideal timeframe to trade or a look out period for the trend to change -if it were near the pivot points -( for long medium and short term strategy) - I observed many times I have been stopped out near the pivot points- I really could find a reason i look at the candles strength and hope it will go high/low keeping in view the high /low in period of time
